Our Commitment to Sustainability: Napa Green Certified Winery & Vineyard

At Bennett Lane Winery, caring for the land is not just part of what we do—it’s at the heart of everything we do.

As we celebrate Earth Day this month, we’re proud to share that our estate is both a Napa Green Certified Winery and Certified Vineyard—a distinction that reflects our ongoing commitment to responsible, sustainable practices here in Calistoga. But what does that really mean?

What Is Napa Green?

Napa Green is a comprehensive sustainability program that sets rigorous standards for environmental responsibility across both vineyard and winery operations. To be certified, wineries must meet best practices in key areas including:

  • Water conservation and efficiency

  • Energy use and savings

  • Soil health and vineyard management

  • Waste reduction and recycling

  • Climate action and carbon footprint reduction

It’s a holistic approach—looking at everything from how we farm our grapes to how we operate day-to-day in the winery and tasting room.

A Commitment from Soil to Cellar

Being both a Napa Green Certified Vineyard and Winery means our efforts extend across every part of our operation.

In our 7-acre estate Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard, this includes practices like:

  • Planting cover crops (like mustard) to improve soil health

  • Reducing or eliminating harmful inputs

  • Managing water use carefully and efficiently

  • Supporting biodiversity in the vineyard ecosystem

Inside the winery, our focus continues with:

  • Reducing waste through recycling and composting

  • Making thoughtful purchasing decisions

  • Exploring ways to lower energy use and emissions

  • Implementing lightweight packaging where possible

Every decision is made with long-term sustainability in mind—ensuring that we care for this land not just for today, but for future vintages to come.

Why It Matters

Sustainability in wine is about more than environmental responsibility—it directly impacts the quality of what ends up in your glass. Healthy soils produce healthier vines. Balanced ecosystems create more resilient vineyards. Thoughtful farming leads to wines that more clearly reflect their place. For us, that place is Calistoga—at the top of Napa Valley—where our estate Cabernet Sauvignon is shaped by both the land and how we choose to care for it.

Looking Ahead

Earth Day is a natural moment to reflect, but sustainability is a year-round commitment.

We’re proud to be part of a community in Napa Valley that continues to lead in responsible farming and environmental stewardship. And we’re grateful to share that journey with you—every time you visit, every time you open a bottle, and every time you follow along with what’s happening here at the winery.

Because great wine begins with a healthy vineyard—and a commitment to protecting it.
