Everyday in the tasting room at Bennett Lane we are asked by our customers why we make a blend?  Why not another Cabernet?  The Maximus Red Feasting Wine has become a flagship wine for us at the winery and one of the wines that we have become best known for.  Our goal each vintage with the Maximus is to make the best Napa Valley Cabernet based blend that we can that is ready to drink right away and goes perfectly with all of your favorite dishes, or on its own as the perfect wine for sipping.  So, the blend.......blending with several grape varietals has expanded the palate of flavors and aromas that we can bring together in the wine.  Why work with one grape when you can take the strengths of many and make the best wine possible.

The base for the wine has always been Cabernet Sauvignon.  Hey, we are in Napa, we just can't resist.  Cab is king in the valley and we think it is the perfect base for our blend.  Bold, luscious and incredible fruit, all perfect reasons to start with Cabernet.  The Napa Valley Merlot that we use for the blend is velvety and lush, balancing perfectly with that bold Cabernet to create a very approachable and elegant finish for the wine.  And for the most intersting part of our blend, Syrah.  When most wineries set out to make a blend it often leads towards the Bordeaux varietals.  We wanted to expand our profile of flavor and aroma components and throw in some Syrah.  As opposed to staying with the red fruit flavors of cherry, berry and currants we bring in these incredible blue fruit notes from our Syrah.  Subtle notes of plum and white pepper add an amazing complexity to our Red Feasting Wine.  What is the blend exactly?  It changes every year.   We blend and blend until we find that perfect combination that tastes like Maximus!  Always consistant and always fantastic.
