Winery's Signature Maximus Blends Will Be Served at the Raceway
(Calistoga, CA; May 19, 2009)-Randy and Lisa Lynch, owners of Bennett Lane Winery, the first California winery to own a NASCAR team, will be the title sponsor for second year in a row of the "Bennett Lane Winery 200" NASCAR Camping World Series West Event Race at Infineon Raceway on June 20th. Local racing fans and wine lovers will gather at the track in Sonoma, to cheer for the home team at the Bennett Lane Winery 200 race, which will serve as the main event on the Saturday of the Toyota/Save Mart 350 event weekend June 20th-21st. Randy Lynch has often said, "I want to turn beer guzzlers in to wine drinkers one race at a time." As the title sponsor of this race, he continues to speed ahead towards this goal. Bennett Lane Winery will also host their very own Wine Garden in Turn 8, where fans can catch an incredible view of the track and enjoy a glass ($8) of Bennett Lane's own "Maximus" red and white feasting wines. Bennett Lane's Reserve Cabernet will also be poured into the "Winner's Cup" for the 2009 race season. For more information or to purchase tickets to the race, please visit www.infineonraceway.com or call 1.800.870.RACE.
"It is always a thrill to be able to combine my two favorite things-wine and NASCAR racing-and I'm excited to share Bennett Lane's award-winning wines with NASCAR fans right here in our own backyard," says Bennett Lane Winery owner Randy Lynch.
Since Bennett Lane Winery first pioneered the unlikely marriage of wine and racing as the first California winery to sponsor a NASCAR team in 2003, the relationship between wine and NASCAR has continued to blossom with wine consumption among NASCAR fans nationwide up 22%, compared to the 7% increase in consumption for the rest of Americans, according to a study published in February 2007 by ACNielsen and Nielsen Sports.
In 2007, the Bennett Lane Winery team claimed its first NASCAR Grand National Division West Series Championship with driver Mike David behind wheel of the #2 Bennett Lane Winery Ford.

-Speedway Illustrated December 2007 by Kevin Green
Mike David began the 2007 Season confident he was with a team that could capture the NASCAR Grand National Division, West Series Championship. That confidence was well founded, as the 40 year old veteran driver from Modesto, Calif. won the title this yeat in the West's oldest stock car racing circuit.

The 2007 season amounts to the consummate encore performance; David finished the 2006 season second in the championship standings.

"I was proud of what we accomplished and knew that, even thoughwe were second, we had one of the best teams out there," he said of his runner up finish with the team owned by Randy Lynch. "I think it made the whole team even hungrier to try and win it this year."

The team is headed up by crew chief Mario Isola, a veteren of the West Series who joined Lynch Racing at the beginning of 2006. Whether it was the second place finish that incresed their hunger for a title or just having a year's experience together, the team appeared to take command in the series from the drop fo the green flag in 2007.

"This was our second season with Mario and the team that we raced with the past two years," David said. "I think we gelled a little more and our communication was better. I think we were just sharper as a team this year."

While confident the team was one of the best in the series, David was often reminded not to be too confident.

"I felt like we had the best equipment and the best team," he said. "So, our confidence was pretty good, but I have enough good people around me that keep me grounded and we don't get over-confident or cocky. We still make sure everything gets done and don't overlook anything. all of our preparation makes us a good contending team. I'm confident in my guys and all they do in prepping the cars."

Bolstered by three consecutive podium finished to start the season, David was able to quickly establish a solid lead in the championship standings. By the conclusion of the fourth race, he had a 100 point lead. Although that gap later narrowed to 76 points, David quickly responded and increased it to a 125 point margin. With a third place finish in the season finale, he clinched the title by 114 point over two time series champion Mike Duncan. Looking back, it appeared the championship was David's to lose.

"It's funny, because we parked next to Duncan most of the year," David recalled. "I get along with their guys real well and Bill kept telling me 'You guys are trying to give it away', every time we'd have a little hiccup or driver error at Sonoma or stuff like that. He'd give us a hard time about them catching us. But it was good to be on top of the standings, instead of chasing."

Now that he has had some time to reflect about winning his first championship in the series, David said he had mixed emotions.

"It's almost a relief more than anything." David said. "It was one of our goals when we started out. I felt like it was an achievable goal. So, to finally accomplish it, I'm excited and proud....and feela little bit of relief also."

<trackback:ping>http://www.bennettlane.com/DesktopModules/DnnForge%20-%20NewsArticles/Tracking/Trackback.aspx?ArticleID=39&PortalID=0&TabID=68</trackback:ping>
David Hopes to Wrap Up Title In Season Finale At Altamont - September 10, 2007

David Hopes to Wrap Up Title In Season Finale At Altamont - September 10, 2007

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. ' The NASCAR Grand National Division, West Series championship will be decided in the season finale Dan Gamel RV Centers 200 at Altamont Motorsports Park near Tracy, Calif., on Saturday, Sept. 15.
Mike David (No. 2 Bennett Lane Winery Ford) jumped into an early lead in the championship standings this season and has maintained a steady pace throughout the year in hopes of capturing his first series title. He holds a commanding 95-point lead over two-time series champion Mike Duncan (No. 9 Lucas Oil/Ron's Rear Ends Chevrolet) heading to Altamont and can wrap up the title by finishing 22nd or better there.
David acknowledges the odds are in his favor, especially considering that Altamont is his home track and that he took the win when the series visited the half-mile oval early this season. But with Duncan second in points, David is not taking anything for granted.
'We've got Duncan behind us and he's come from behind before,' David said. 'We can't let our guard down. He's got the experience. He's won championships before coming from behind in the last race. So, it's not automatic by any means.'
Despite his sizeable points lead, David does not plan to change his strategy for the event. 'We're going to approach it like we have every race this year, to do as well as we can and try to win the race,' said the 40-year-old Modesto, Calif., driver. 'Our main plan this year was just to go to every race track and run well. I think we've done that. That's why we're going to try to not deviate from what we've been doing.'
David has had podium finishes in seven of 12 races this season. He has not failed to finish a race all season and considers that possibility as his biggest threat in this final event. 'What would devastate our program would be a parts failure or an early crash or something,' David said.
A year ago, David went to Altamont for the final race with a 47-point deficit. After suffering a flat tire and finishing 13th, he watched as his long-time friend and competitor Eric Holmes overcame problems to win the championship. Now David hopes to take the title home.
The West Series championship has been the focus of David and car owner Randy Lynch since joining the circuit. 'It's a goal that we set out when we started this thing,' said David, who won the Sunoco Rookie of the Year Award in 2002. 'That was one of our goals to win this championship. It would be gratifying. It would mean a lot.'

<trackback:ping>http://www.bennettlane.com/DesktopModules/DnnForge%20-%20NewsArticles/Tracking/Trackback.aspx?ArticleID=40&PortalID=0&TabID=68</trackback:ping>
Modesto, CA (July 27, 2007)

Modesto, CA (July 27, 2007)
Mike David and the No. 2 Bennett Lane Winery/Injury Helpline.com team are looking forward to bringing home their third win of the season as the NASCAR Grand National Division West Series heads to Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, Washington on August 4th.
David is leading in the chase for the series championship with 114 points over the second place competitor. He's not racing a point race though; he is looking to win at the .646-mile track of Evergreen Speedway.
'This track has such a great history,' said David. 'Drivers like Bill Elliot, Ray Elder, Hershel McGriff and Jack McCoy have won races on this oval. It's a fun track to drive. It's got a slippery surface in some areas and a few rough patches too. If we pay attention and race the track, we will do well here.'
David and the no. 2 Bennet Lane team took home a top-ten finish last year after starting third on the grid. 'We deviated from our strategy last year and we didn't get the results we were capable of. This year we're sticking with what works. The team has been working hard to keep our momentum going and it shows on the track. I can't thank them and our great sponsor enough.'
Bennet Lane Winery owner's Randy and Lisa Lynch are looking forward to racing at Evergreen Speedway. 'Mike David has done a great job this season,' said team owner Randy Lynch. 'He's a patient and smart driver. He runs good at Evergreen. In fact he led laps for the first time in his West Series race career at Evergreen Speedway. We look forward to great results this weekend.'
The team will take the green at Evergreen Speedway Saturday August 4th. For tickets and race event information, please logon to www.evergreenspeedway.net. Children five and under are free. "Mike David charged from third to first place as the two leaders tangled on the final lap in NASCAR Grand National Division, West Series action at Altamont Motorsports Park on Saturday.

A fierce last-lap battle for the lead between Johnny Borneman and Justin Lofton ended in a spectacular turn three crash, leaving David to lead his only lap of the race and score his fifth career series win.
'I saw them beating and banging,' David said. 'I didn't know they would be that aggressive with each other. The last lap and last corner ' they were both wanting to win real bad. It worked out good for us.'
David, who had faded to ninth just past the midway point of the race, admitted that he did not think late in the event that he had a shot at the victory on what he now considers his home track. 'I was going for a top five,' said the series veteran from Modesto, Calif. 'Then we got up there and got a yellow and I was thinking maybe fourth or third. Then (Mike) Duncan made a pit stop. And they said the (No.) 44 was having tranny trouble or something. I was thinking we had a good shot at third. I didn't know those guys were going to take each other out like that.'
David's win on the semi-banked half-mile track, which netted him $7,250, came despite a possible carburetor problem with his Bennett Lane Winery Ford. 'I don't know if we had the carb too fat or what, but it just wasn't crisp,' he said in reference to the jetting and adjustments on the carburetor. 'It wouldn't run good off the corner. It made it look like we had handling trouble, but actually the car handled well.'
'The whole team just kept focused,' David said of dealing with the situation. 'At halftime we improved the car a little bit. The whole team never gave up. The spotter and crew chief kept me pumped up on the radio. Like I said, it's a team effort and this is a win for our team.' ....David ' who extended his early lead in the standings to 70 points over Woods, with three of 13 championship races complete ' becomes the third driver in West Series action this season to lock up a spot in this year's NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown by winning a race. Only Grand National Division race winners and the champions of the NASCAR Developmental Series will earn starting positions in this year's prestigious post-season event. All others must race their way in under the new format. " - from www.racingwest.com
Bennett Lane Winery's NASCAR West team took first place at the Altamont 200 race on April 28th, propelling the Bennett Lane Winery team ahead in the NASCAR West standings by an incredible 70 points. The win at Altamont follows three successful races. Driver Mike David also placed in the top three at the Phoenix International Raceway on April 20th and at the Allstate Texas Thunder 150 on March 31st, catapulting the team into the first place position early in the season.
Randy and Lisa Lynch, the first and only California vintners to own a NASCAR team, couldn't be more thrilled with the Bennett Lane team's success thus far this season. "We're very proud of our driver Mike David and the Bennett Lane crew for all of their hard work so far this season, and we're really looking forward to racing on our home turf at Infineon in June," says Randy.
On June 23rd, the Lynches' love of wine and fast cars will come together on their home turf for a NASCAR West race at the Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, located at the gateway to the Napa Valley. Local racing fans and wine lovers will gather at the track to cheer for the home team car- Bennett Lane's own car emblazoned with the Bennett Lane Winery logo in Bennett Lane's signature purple and yellow racing colors.
The Lynches are also excited to announce the addition of a new car to the Bennett Lane Winery team: the Maximus car. The new car is a black Ford Fusion and will make its debut at Infineon, sporting the gold label of the winery's flagship wine, Maximus- a unique blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. Owner Lisa Lynch's new black and gold Maximus car will be driven by P.J. Jones, son of Indianapolis 500 winner Parnelli Jones, and will compete against Randy Lynch's purple and yellow Bennett Lane Winery car, driven by Mike David and currently ranked in first place in the NASCAR West standings.
The second largest sport in the United States, NASCAR followers have traditionally been beer-swilling drinkers, rather than wine aficionados, but Bennett Lane Winery's plan is to change that- one race at a time. "I think there is a huge untapped market out there in the racing world- with team owners, drivers, teams and fans- that are all looking to learn about and try good wine," Randy Lynch says.
POINTS UPDATE

P.J. Jones Burns up the Track at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma
Take a Napa Valley vintner with a passion for racing and pair him up with the son of one of America's most famous drivers, Parnelli Jones, and you've got a recipe for California wine on the fast track. That's what happened on Sunday, June 27, when Parnelli's son, P.J., climbed into his Bennett Lane Winery Dodge to join 42 of America's top drivers in the grueling, high-speed, 110-lap Nascar race at Infineon Raceway, located at the gateway to northern California wine country.
Bennett Lane owner Randy Lynch is in good company when it comes to vintners who race. Mario Andretti and the late Gil Nickel are among the highest profile winemakers in the category. But until Sunday's race, no California winery had ever sent a car to the biggest race in the wine country. Several hundred thousand fans turned out for the spectacle at Infineon, and some 70 million reportedly tuned in via television.
Lynch, who purchased Bennett Lane Winery in Calistoga nearly three years ago, is a long time racing aficionado who used to race cars himself. He owns his own race car team that tours the Western United States, with its cars proudly sporting his winery logo. The car driven by Jones was also is emblazoned with the Bennett Lane moniker and was recently featured in Sports Illustrated. The Nascar race carried a $5.2 million dollar purse to be shared among the drivers.
"Wine is something I came to love later in life," Lynch said." But racing is something I've been involved with since I was a teenager. It gives me a sense of great personal accomplishment along with the thrill of the race. It's also very exciting to blend my two passions right here among the vines."
The race started off well for P.J., who quickly moved into 5th position. But then on lap 6, another driver spun out and created a smoke cloud that temporarily blinded all the nearby drivers, causing them to collide with each other. The Bennett Lane car sustained some damages but was soon back on the track with an ugly gash in the hood and other undetected problems.
Despite the handicaps, P.J. continued to improve his positioning until lap 71, when his Dodge lost the rear-end gear and was forced to retire. "That damage really hurt us," Jones said. "Not only did it take away track position, but the repairs we were able to make couldn't get the car where it needed to be. At the start the car was really good and we were moving up. I thought we had the beginnings of a good day. But you just never know what lies ahead, especially at a place like Infineon. It's a shame and I feel for Bennett Lane because we all wanted to give them a good show," he added.

<trackback:ping>http://www.bennettlane.com/DesktopModules/DnnForge%20-%20NewsArticles/Tracking/Trackback.aspx?ArticleID=46&PortalID=0&TabID=68</trackback:ping>
Our Drink of Choice? And no, it's not Bud
"Somehow wine has edged beer as America's favorite type of alcohol. Even among guys. For the first time since Gallup began keeping track in 1992, more Americans have reported that their alcoholic beverage of choice is wine, not beer." -- excerpt from LA Times
In the world of racing - where beer gets more airplay than wine - Bennett Lane makes a strong statement for the most popular of beverages when its winning car crosses the finish line. Owner Randy Lynch is proud to have his car emblazoned with the Bennett Lane logo, where he hopes to turn more NASCAR fans towards the world of wine.

<trackback:ping>http://www.bennettlane.com/DesktopModules/DnnForge%20-%20NewsArticles/Tracking/Trackback.aspx?ArticleID=45&PortalID=0&TabID=68</trackback:ping>
David Wraps Up Strong Season with Second in Points Championship

David Wraps Up Strong Season with Second in Points Championship
Sunday afternoon at Altamont Motorsports Park, Mike David and Lynch Racing Team came close to their first NASCAR Autozone West Series title, but a string of bad luck relegated the team to a 12th place finish.
David was looking to finish at least eight spots ahead of friend and rival Eric Holmes of Escalon, CA.
In qualifying, David placed the Bennett Lane Winery Ford Fusion fourth on the grid for the 200 lap "October Classic" grind.
After surviving the final 10 laps of the first 100 lap segment with a flat, the Lynch Racing Team got David back on track and put him in contention for the title once more.
On lap 182, however, Andrew Lewis lost an engine and as a result David made hard contact with the turn four wall. During a yellow flag pit stop David lost a lap making repairs and eventually retired from the event on lap 192 with a broken swaybar.
It was a tough end of the regular season for a team that had excelled, with nine top-fives, six top-tens, and two wins in 12 starts.
"It was a good season but I'm obviously disappointed," David said. "I knew the guys would do all they could to get me back out. Nobody on this team gives up."
Highlighting the season for Lynch Racing included winning both hometown Stockton events, and taking the pole at Texas in September.
"We achieved all of our goals except obviously the championship," David said. "There were a few disappointments but the entire season was great and a lot of fun."
Some of the success of the team can be attributed to David melding well with crew chief Mario Isola.
"I got along well with Mario and we communicated well," David said. "We were on the same page most of the time and he understood what I said about the car."
This budding relationship, along with the growth of the rest of the team, has David eying an 07 run at the championship.
"We had a lot of new people on our team this year," David said. "The more you work together, the better you'll get. We'll be even better next year." Now Lynch Racing Team turns its attention to the Toyota All Star Showdown, Friday and Saturday night in Irwindale, CA. The event pits the top-15 in the points from both the Autozone West and Busch East Series in a pair of 50 lap heats on Friday and a 150 lap feature Saturday.
More than $300,000 in awards are up for grabs in the race being televised live on SPEED both nights.
"I think we are bringing an even better car this time to Irwindale then we did last time," David said. "The car we're taking is better suited to win this race. It would be great to win it and get a new Toyota on top of that."
